MENTAL HEALTH EMERGENCY NURSE
NURSE III

POSITION NUMBER: 1199

POSITION: PART TIME (0.6) TERM
TERM DATES: OCT 17/09 - OCT 16/10

SHIFT LENGTH: 7 3/4
ROTATION: DAY/EVENING

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current CRNM/CRPNM registration required
  • Baccalaureate of Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing preferred, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience will be considered
  • Suicide Assessment and Intervention
  • NVCI/Management of Aggressive Behaviour
  • Minimum three (3) years recent nursing experience in Mental Health Emergency and/or Acute Care Mental Health unit required
  • Previous recent experience in Community/Ambulatory Mental Health nursing preferred
  • Group therapy and crisis intervention skills required
  • Previous experience and/or equivalent combination of education in substance use issues preferred
  • Demonstrated competency in mental health crisis intervention and psychosocial assessment required
  • Extensive knowledge of available community resources required
  • Ability to function in stressful situations
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

1) Applicants will be assessed against the following selection criteria, as applicable to the position: experience, education, clinical skills/knowledge, problem-solving skills, communication skills (written and oral), interpersonal skills, leadership skills, management skills, teaching skills, work record, professional development and seniority.
2) A reference from the current Supervisor may be required, upon request.
3) A sample of the applicant's own writing may be requested.
4) Applicants are required to submit a letter of application including a current resume.



The term position is a "maternity or parental leave of absence term" which may expire sooner than indicated, subject to minimum notice of two (2) weeks or one pay period, whichever is longer.
