To ensure quality of care and safety, all patient charts are assessed prior to surgery. If you require a pre-assessment appointment, we will contact you to arrange the appointment.

What to do if you are called in for an appointment ?

  • Eat and drink like you normally would. It is not necessary to fast before your clinic appointment.

  • Bring your medications with you to the hospital.

  • 30 minutes prior to your appointment, register in the Admitting Department on the first floor.

  • Plan to be at the appointment for 2-3 hours. Time varies dependent upon your illnesses etc.

Who may you see while you are at your assessment appointment ?

  • The clinic nurse will provide you with pre-operative instructions and answer many of your questions about your hospital stay.

  • The Anesthesiologist or Nurse Clinician will review your history and physical, perform a brief physical examination, and discuss the anesthetic plan (how we will make you comfortable during your surgery). The Anesthesiologist may also require that you be seen by other medical specialists who will work together to make your surgery as safe as possible.

  • Pastoral Care is available to assist you with spirituality or counseling issues.

  • A Physical Therapist may teach you post-operative exercises and review your physical recovery plans.

  • You may see other members of the health care team as required or requested to be involved in your care i.e.: social work, enterstomal therapy.
